Bethany Presbyterian Church is looking for a part-time (24 hours per week) director of music to plan and oversee the music program, direct and accompany the adult SATB repertory choir for 10 a.m. worship, as well as lead weekly choir rehearsals (1.5 – 2 hours).
Responsibilities :
- Serve as organist for 10 a.m. worship service January 1 – December 31. Responsible for hiring substitute organist when unavailable.
- Direct and accompany adult choir at 10 a.m. worship and warm up prior to service Sept. – May.
- Direct and accompany three Summer Family Choir anthems June – August with 1-hour pre-service rehearsal.
- Arrange for soloists and other musicians for anthems on non-Family Choir Sundays during the Summer.
- Produce two Music Sundays (Fall and Spring) with hired orchestra accompanying extended choral work.
- Work with youth choir leader and head of staff to integrate youth performances into worship services several times per year.
- Work with bell choir director and head of staff to integrate bell choir presentations.
- Work with head of staff to develop, integrate, and coordinate special services throughout the year (e.g. Lent and Advent).
- Serve as organist for weddings and funerals.
- Schedule tuning and repair of church instruments (Holtkamp Organ lll / 35 1965 and Steinway baby grand piano).
- Attend monthly worship and music committee meetings and weekly staff meetings.
Minimum Requirements :
Applicant should have Bachelor of Music (Masters preferred) and a minimum of 3 years’ experience directing a choir (desired). Position includes two weeks of vacation (excluding Holy Week, Christmas Eve, and Easter). Annual salary $27,500 – $30,000 commensurate with experience.
