What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stock Cutter/General Laborer position at Prescott Metal?
The Stock Cutter/General Laborer is responsible for cutting machining stock to pre and post machining dimensions using a 13” Kalamazoo automatic horizontal bandsaw, and deburring material if necessary to prepare the material for the machining centers.
- Review work orders for correct size, length and quantity of stock for cutting.
- Check that all safety devices/machine guarding are in place and operational.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks.
- Maintain log of preventive maintenance on daily/weekly schedule according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Set up and safe operation of various equipment including bandsaw, drill presses and hand-held grinding tools.
- Alert supervisor of any maintenance or repairs that require outside services.
- Observe tool and machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
- Notify supervisor of any problems and suggest changes that will allow jobs to run more efficiently.
- Assists other staff as needed in the various phases of the fabrication processes.
- Keep the area clean, neat and orderly to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
- Help clean up other parts of the shop when asked.
- Operation of forklift for receiving stock material.
- Operate company van for pick-ups and deliveries
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned to help Tee Enterprises achieve its goals.
Other equipment employee may use:
Other manual horizontal band saws, vertical band saws, high-speed cut-off saw, drill presses, grinder.
- HS Diploma/GED or vocational tech school.
- Strong mechanical ability.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings with training.
- Complete training on battery operated pallet jack or forklift.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and cross functional interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic, integrity, initiative, and “can-do” attitude.
- Ability to work in a “team environment.”
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Interpret work orders.
- Ability to identify different material/metal.
- Ability to read job specifications to determine machine adjustments.
- Ability to read tape measure and dial caliper.
