What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forklift Operator (Shipping/Receiving) position at Prestage?
General:
The forklift operator is responsible for managing the movement and staging of product, packaging components, and trailers to and from the plant floor, shipping dock, cold storage warehouse, and scales. The driver maintains order in the shipping, plant floor, cold storage, and trailers for shipping and processing poultry products. The driver ensures the safe and correct movement of materials, trailers, & supplies. The position reports to the Shipping /Receiving Supervisor w/ primary work schedule of Monday – Friday 7:00am – 5:30pm with flexibility to work overtime, early or late shift, and weekends, as needed.
Specific Duties / Responsibilities:
- Operate with a safety-first mindset to move product, supplies, & trailers to /from various locations
- Inspect containers; perform storage checks; document all pre-start-up / end of shift lift-truck checklist
- Make up cardboard combo bins for product
- Keep accurate load documentation & delivery paperwork
- Obtain required license to operate pallet jacks
- Safely maneuver forklift / pallet jacks to move product combo bins to cooler area for shipment
- Complete housekeeping; Keep equipment and in/outdoor storage area clean and in proper order;
- Work within GMP, safety, and USDA guidelines to achieve top quality work
- Willingly learn new skills, cross train others, and train new drivers
- Perform other assigned duties as directed by supervisor/manager
Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or GED (Min.);
Experience:
- Working knowledge / experience in motorized equipment operation
- Material handling & forklift experience– (required)
- CDL; truck driving experience (preferred)
Skills/Abilities/Attributes:
- Strong experience operating/ troubleshooting forklift/motorized equipment
- Solid understanding of food safety & compliance
- Self-directed team player w/ good communication / interpersonal skills
- Able to work in fast-paced environment with minimum supervision
- CDL / Truck driving experience (preferred / not required)
- Basic computer and math skills
Physical Requirements:
- Lift / move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally 50 lbs.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, stoop up to 10 hrs./shift
- Work safely indoors & outdoors in varying temperatures; wet environment (e.g., 35-40 / 100 degrees)
