Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct blood draws from patients of all ages, ensuring comfort and care.
  • Prepare and maintain phlebotomy equipment and supplies.
  • Label and safely store blood specimens following established protocols.
  • Ensure patient identification and verification before collection.
  • Monitor and respond to patient reactions during and after the blood draw.
  • Communicate procedures clearly to patients and their families.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of work areas.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations regarding blood handling.
  • Document patient information and sample details accurately.
  • Assist with laboratory duties as necessary, including specimen processing.
  • Provide exceptional patient care and emotional support during procedures.
  • Stay updated on new techniques and regulations in phlebotomy.
  • Train and mentor new staff or interns in phlebotomy techniques.
  • Manage and update patient records in electronic health systems.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to enhance patient experience.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy program.
  • Certification from a recognized Phlebotomy certification body.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in a clinical or laboratory setting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of blood collection techniques.
  • Ability to handle biohazardous materials following safety guidelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to engage with diverse patient populations.
  • Comfortable with computer systems for data entry and record keeping.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Basic knowledge of infection control procedures.
  • Good physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and training.
