Duties
- Review patient records and ensure all necessary documentation is complete for billing purposes.
- Accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding systems.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and government payers.
- Follow up on unpaid claims, resolving any discrepancies or issues with payers.
- Manage accounts receivable by tracking payments and conducting medical collections as needed.
- Maintain organized medical records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify any billing-related questions or concerns.
- Stay updated on changes in medical billing regulations, coding practices, and payer requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, preferably within a medical office setting.
- Strong knowledge of DRG (Diagnosis Related Group), medical coding, and medical records management.
- Proficiency in using medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Familiarity with ICD-10 and ICD-9 coding guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for problem-solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Certification in medical billing or coding is a plus but not required.
