- Install, configure, troubleshoot, upgrade, and maintain Linux servers and clients (Ubuntu, RedHat) in both physical and virtual environments.
- Enable seamless remote desktop access between Windows and Ubuntu systems.
- Create and manage user accounts with LDAP and PAM authentication protocols.
- Integrate Linux systems with Windows Active Directory; manage access via Samba (SMB/CIFS).
- Troubleshoot and maintain hardware drivers (X.org, X11, XFree86) and print environments.
- Maintain Symantec backup clients; review and enhance backup protocols for compliance.
- Support scientific staff with installation and troubleshooting of environmental modeling software and databases (e.g., MySQL, RStudio, Python, Appaserver).
- Provide support for scientific programming languages such as C, C , and Fortran, including library and compilation support.
- Implement automated diagnostic tools for performance tracking and issue resolution.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
- 5 years of experience administering Linux systems (Ubuntu and RedHat).
- Demonstrated experience integrating Linux with Windows Active Directory.
- Proficiency in LDAP, PAM, Samba, and NFS.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across software, hardware, and networking layers.
- Familiarity with cloud-based virtual machines and scientific computing environments.
- Experience with hydrodynamic or ecological modeling, including DHI's MIKE software suite.
- Experience with relational database connectivity (MySQL) and front-end tools like RStudio and Python.
- Prior work with federal environmental agencies or scientific research centers.
- Salary Range: $80000-97000
