Currently serving over 1,500 patients in two different states and looking to grow to over 10,000 patients in 5 states, over the next 3-5 years. Our focus is advocating and implementing an integrated care model approach to underserved populations undergoing behavioral health related issues.

SUMMARY

The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) assists clients and their families throughout the rehabilitation and recovery process from substance use disorders (SUD), including illicit substances, abused prescription drugs, alcohol, and other behavioral addictions. RSSs provide strength-based support to individuals recovering from addiction.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide ongoing assessment of clients’ wants and needs and facilitate the development and updating of the Individualized Recovery Plan.
  • Teach clients how to successfully manage their illness through the development of symptom recognition skills, symptom management skills, and coping skills.
  • Teach clients any skill that will facilitate independence and achievement of their recovery goals including daily living skills, interpersonal skills, independent transportation skills and anger management skills.
  • Assist and support clients in crisis situations.
  • Assist clients in applying for all benefits and entitlements that will provide for their needs, such as SSI, Medicaid, Section 8, energy assistance, and reduced fare metro cards.
  •  Assist clients in developing natural support networks by locating supports and services in the community such as AA, self-help groups, and recreational centers.
  • Locate safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for clients that is appropriate for the level of care that they need; provide support during transition from different types of housing.
  • Accompany clients to critical services when necessary, especially critical medical appointments.
  • Provide education, support and consultation to clients’ families and support system, as appropriate.
  • Document all services provided by billing and writing progress notes the same day the service is provided, but no later than 10AM the next business day; reviewing and updating IRPs every 180 days; and reporting and maintaining all correspondence as often as indicated.
  • Provide monitoring when clients are engaged in services with other agencies.
  • Participate in the Team Meetings.
  • Participate in the on-call system that will respond to clients after hours and on weekends.
  • Provide advocacy and support for clients as they navigate social, governmental, and community systems


WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

POSITION TYPEAND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Has some on call duties (as necessary)

Within the Washington, D.C Metro Area

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma required  
  • Three (3) years of experience working in ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) and behavioral health programs  
  • Experience and knowledge of direct behavioral health services, including assessment, treatment, and consultation 
  • Knowledge of diverse modalities of counseling and diagnostic principles  
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, counseling and diagnostic theories and techniques to a full range of diverse client populations, including co-occurring disorders  
  • Knowledge of clinical research literature  
  • Experience in program development, data management, and performance management  
  • Belief in a strengths-based approach to human services
