Preti Flaherty, one of New England’s largest law firms with offices in ME, NH, MA, and Washington, D.C., is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join the firm’s dynamic and growing Trusts and Estates practice group. This position is based in our newly renovated headquarters in downtown Portland, ME, and offers an engaging roster of work on behalf of Preti’s regional and national clients.
Preti Flaherty’s Legal Assistants play a key role in advancing the mission and goals of the Firm by providing key administrative and other support to attorneys and paralegals.
The candidate must be proactive, organized, and attentive to detail. The ability to work cooperatively in a team is essential.
Responsibilities include:
· Manage and track multiple matters and advise attorneys / paralegals of upcoming deadlines, outstanding tasks, etc.
· Organize and maintain electronic and physical estate planning and probate administration files.
· Organize and maintain attorneys’ calendars and email folders.
· Regular and professional communication with clients, the Probate Court, creditors; financial institutions, etc.
· Proofread various documents such as Wills, Trusts, correspondence, etc.
· Prepare probate forms, basic tax forms, correspondence, notices, and create packages of indexed documents, etc.
· Serve as witness and/or Notary Public to in-person document executions.
· Electronically search and file with the Probate Court and Registry of Deeds.
· Provide general administrative support to attorneys and paralegals.
Education and Experience Required
· 2 years experience in a law firm, preferably in the State of Maine.
· Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
· Knowledge of basic estate planning, probate, real estate and corporate practices is preferred.
· Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
