Development and Marketing Associate - Full Time

Job Summary: The Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight by providing services, education, advocacy, and innovation. POB programs address vision health equity in the D.C. Metropolitan community. POB is seeking a full-time detail-oriented writer and editor for this dynamic role, which offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause while gaining valuable experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing. Job Location: Capitol Hill, 5-minute walk from Union Station, Hybrid Remote

Work Schedule: Minimum 40 hours per week

Salary: $55,000 - $57,000

Responsibilities:

Development & Grant Writing

  • Draft, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals and reports.
  • Research and identify new funding opportunities, including corporate, foundation, and government grants.
  • Collaborate with program staff and leadership to gather necessary information for proposals.
  • Maintain a master grants calendar, ensuring timely submissions and compliance with donor requirements.
  • Organize and maintain accurate grant records, proposals, and deadlines in a web-based database.
  • Assist with donor research, donor engagement, and stewardship activities.

Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and edit content for various platforms, including emails, blog posts, press releases, social media captions, and branding materials.
  • Assist in planning and executing social media and marketing campaigns for POB.
  • Support outreach through donor communications, event marketing, and community engagement.

General & Event Support

  • Assist with donor acknowledgment processes, mailings, and database management.
  • Represent POB at community and special events.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Duties

  • Available occasional weekends and evenings
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • US Citizen
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a relevant field
  • 1-2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver’s license in the metro area (DC, MD, VA)
  • Must have reliable personal transportation
  • Proven experience in grant writing and institutional donor research, with a track record of successful funding proposals
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines through effective planning and organization
  • Ability to collaborate within diverse, multi-disciplinary teams, demonstrating a proactive, adaptable, and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, focusing on prioritization and meeting deadlines
  • Quick learner with a problem-solving mindset, eager to contribute as a reliable and resourceful team player
  • Proficient in Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive), Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Salesforce (or similar fundraising/CRM database), Canva, grant research tools (Foundation Directory, Instrumental, Grant Station), and WordPress
  • Maintain professional appearance and attitude
  • Bilingual, e.g., Spanish, is a plus
