Job Title: Azure Data Engineer – Data Science and AI Application Branch
Location: Bethesda, MD (Onsite at NIHBC 13, Room 211)
Employment Type: Full-Time (30–40 hours per week)
Job Summary: The Data Science and AI Application Branch (DSAIAB) is seeking a skilled Azure Data Engineer to support the creation of a shared Microsoft Azure resource and migrate on-premises resources to Azure. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud technologies, Linux systems, Azure data platforms, and modern data governance and MLOps tools. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing technical solutions, ensuring data reliability, and optimizing performance for a high-performance computing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, secure, and manage Microsoft Azure resources, including Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Linux servers, and MLOps pipelines.
- Migrate on-premises data resources to Azure, ensuring seamless integration and data reliability.
- Perform data management tasks, including cleaning, governance, and analysis using Python, Pandas, SQL, and SQL-like tools.
- Collaborate with IT teams to implement data engineering pipelines and advanced data science stacks.
- Troubleshoot and maintain high-performance computing systems, ensuring hardware upgrades, performance tuning, and resource optimization.
- Create, test, and maintain software applications for scientific research, including custom tools for data collection and analysis.
- Provide user training, consultation, and technical support for research computing systems, software, and pipelines.
- Draft and document cybersecurity protocols, architecture, and development standards.
- Compile reports, graphs, and data visualizations for research presentations and manuscripts.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.
- Experience: Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Azure and Azure MLOps tools
- Linux systems (e.g., Unix, Bash)
- Programming and scripting languages (Python, Pandas, MySQL, Git)
- Data management, governance, and analysis
- Cybersecurity practices in cloud environments
Preferred Skills and Certifications:
- Microsoft Azure Administrator Certification
- Expertise in database management and data cleaning
- Familiarity with data governance tools like Databricks, Snowflake, or Synapse
- Strong knowledge of high-performance computing environments
