Pride Health is seeking candidates for a Laboratory Supervisor—MLS-opportunity based in Roanoke VA 24014.This is a full-time role contract to hire role at the Facility.
Shift: Monday-Friday-Must be flexible as oversees all shifts in hospital setting.
Payrate:$42-45.67/hr(40 hrs. in a week)
(Pay rate depends on experience, expertise, and education)
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the manager or director, the candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, and overseeing the work of the section to effectively maximize the utilization of employees, equipment, and materials within budget constraints. This role also ensures that all work adheres to quality technical standards. The candidate will be accountable for the quantity and quality of specimens handled and the accuracy of test results.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Department Oversight: Manage the activities of the department, assign and distribute work, prioritize tasks, and schedule non-routine procedures.
- Supervision of Staff: Conduct supervisory duties, including interviewing, hiring, training, and staff development. Provide performance evaluations and corrective counseling as necessary.
- Advanced Testing and Lab Techniques: Perform advanced and specialized tests and laboratory techniques. Duplicate work if needed to confirm results, reevaluate methodologies, recommend changes, and assist in test interpretation. Assess if further testing or repetition of tests is required.
- Report Review and Approval: Check and approve all specialized and problem reports for accuracy.
- Quality Control: Initiate and monitor quality control measures to ensure adherence to laboratory standards.
- Technologist Support: Fill in for absent technologists or assist during peak workload periods as needed.
- Special Projects: Complete special projects, including surveys, statistical reports, studies, and research tasks.
- Safety and Sanitation: Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Training and Competency: Complete training and competency checklists as required.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety regulations. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, or work practice controls as directed by management.
- Client Communication: Respond to inquiries from clients or other laboratory personnel as needed.
- Inspection Participation: Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections if required.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. This list is a general description and not exhaustive.
Education/Required Work Experience:
- Supervisory Experience: 4-5 years of full-time supervisory experience is preferred. A minimum of 1-2 years may be acceptable if the candidate has strong people skills.
- Certification and Education: Virginia State Board Certified MLS or MLT, and a 4-year degree in a scientific field are required.
- Laboratory Experience: 1-3 years of hands-on experience in hospital Microbiology/Molecular laboratory testing. Microbiology experience is essential and must be hands-on, not research-based.
- Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the designated specialty, including theoretical and operational aspects.
- Policies and Procedures: Familiarity with organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
- Handling of Biological Samples: Ability to handle biological samples and hazardous chemicals.
Skills and Competencies:
- Leadership and Problem-Solving: Proven ability to lead teams and solve problems effectively.
- Detail-Oriented: Must be detail-oriented with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple responsibilities to ensure maximum department efficiency.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with employees, co-workers, and clients.
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle client information confidentially.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
- Critical Thinking: Strong critical thinking and communication skills, with the ability to speak with confidence when discussing test results with physicians.
