This is a 40-hour per week, 13-week contract position offering guaranteed hours. Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician will be responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment within the hospital. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in sterile processing, including knowledge of sterilization methods, safety standards, and aseptic techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sort, clean, disinfect, and inspect surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Assemble, wrap, label, and prepare surgical trays for sterilization.
- Operate, maintain, and monitor sterilizing and cleaning equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain accurate records per AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA guidelines.
- Perform biological monitoring of sterilization equipment and follow protocols for failed biological results.
- Ensure aseptic techniques are followed in handling, storing, and preparing sterile items.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in the Sterile Processing Department.
- Deliver processed supplies and equipment to various hospital departments (if applicable).
- Assist in the Endoscopy reprocessing department (if applicable).
- Participate in the training and orientation of new employees.
- Report faulty equipment, safety concerns, and deficiencies to Sterile Processing leadership.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: One year of related healthcare experience is preferred.
- Preferred Education: Successful completion of Central Sterile coursework is preferred.
- Certifications: Certification in Sterile Processing is preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and follow equipment operating instructions and complete required documentation.
- Basic math skills for instrument counting and completing count sheets.
- Basic computer skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
