Job Title: Epic Systems Security Specialist
Location: Fully Remote (Preference for candidates in Metro Detroit/NE Ohio)
Rate: $40 to $42/hr
Shift: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday
Job Description:
The Epic Systems Security Specialist will play a key role in designing and implementing the Epic systems security framework. Reporting to the Project Manager, Manager, or Director, this role involves working closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure that Epic software is configured securely and efficiently to meet user needs and organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Epic systems, supporting users, owners, and administrators.
- Stay updated on new Epic security functionalities across applications.
- Coordinate security activities across infrastructure, physical security (buildings, grounds), and Epic application teams.
- Work with application coordinators/analysts to determine appropriate access and system-level configurations.
- Establish ownership and change delegation guidelines for system access.
- Limit and secure system access to authorized personnel.
- Manage secure remote access and ensure regular password changes.
- Establish user-level security and password management practices.
- Create security classifications within Epic software and ensure proper menu configurations.
- Develop and maintain procedures for user access, login authorization, and system training.
- Manage the deactivation process for users no longer authorized to access the system.
- Design and implement test plans for verifying business application requirements.
- Participate in technical reviews to ensure the intended changes are correctly implemented.
- Provide escalation support for production issues and perform root cause analysis.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of applicable work experience required.
- At least 5 years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience with at least two major Epic implementations or upgrades is required.
Skills and Expertise:
- Experience using basic SQL commands (required).
- Experience with Unix (preferred).
- Familiarity with different ticketing systems (preferred).
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and multi-tasking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Ability to solve problems analytically and flexibly.
