Pride, Inc. has a very rare opportunity for a Direct Support Professional 2 within our Production department! This is a daytime (8:15am – 4:15pm) Monday through Friday position, with major holidays off! We are looking for someone with DSP or higher experience within the DD/ID field.

This position is responsible to provide training and guidance to individuals served in areas of employment and Day Programming. 

  1. The primary responsibility is to promote the growth, well-being and autonomy of the individuals served. Growth refers to the maturation of the individual in an age-appropriate manner. Well-being reflects the preferences of the individual. Autonomy is the ability of the individual in ensuring that they have the support needed to maintain control over their environments and life events.
  2. Provide a warm, sensitive, caring environment through positive interaction and role modeling; this would include: greeting people using first name; maintaining an upbeat and positive attitude towards individuals, peers, and supervisor; showing genuine interest in people, asking them about their day, activities, allow individuals to make choices, and providing an attitude that promotes team work.
  3. Have a good working knowledge of developmental disabilities, major psychiatric diagnoses, and behavior modification in order to have a comprehensive understanding and approach with individuals served. Team members are expected to know and understand the manifestations and implications of the diagnosis; know the level 1, 2, & 3 procedures and the hierarchy of escort procedures; have knowledge of behavior modification terminology; know and understand all aspects of each individual behavior objective, be able to implement the behavior program.
  4. Maintain a high working knowledge of Pride's handbook, including emergency procedures, and be able to demonstrate a high understanding of the handbook on topics including abuse and neglect, exploitation, sexuality, disaster policies, evacuation and reporting procedures
  5. Assist in completing vocational assessments; attend team reviews or OSP meetings in the absence of the Supervisor.
  6. Implement the objectives and supports of the Plan for the Future using prescribed methods and teaching techniques as delineated in the plan. Be aware of and understand long-range goals; have a working knowledge of the objectives, outcomes, and teaching techniques; know reinforcements of each objective, including prompts to be used; record and file data.
  7. Become medication certified through in-house training. Be informed of and adhere to medication policies; to include being able to demonstrate and complete the three-way check; know what medication each person takes and the purpose of each medication; be alert to and monitor for side effects; report any medication error immediately to nurse or pharmacist following the Who to Call protocol, and complete Medication Error form.
  8. Demonstrate, assist and teach individuals served skills in production and day programming training, according to the recommendations by the Plan for the Future team. Support other team members in working with people supported to demonstrate, assist and teach skills in production and day programming training.
  9. Responsible for assisting and monitoring the completion of other team members’ monthly progress reports and annual assessments, clinician and programmatic reports. Responsible for completing other monthly duties as needed or assigned.
  10. Provide systematic training skills to assist individuals served to successfully perform identified tasks and training activities.  
  11. Working hours are 8:15 – 4:15 with the exception of having to provide coverage for any DSP that is on vacation or calls in sick. In absence of the Supervisor this position will monitor and maintain the supervisor’s work cell phone.
  12. Attend staff meetings and participate in agency sponsored service training.
  13. Be a responsible Team Member; arrive to work on time, be flexible with work schedule, completes all paper work in a timely manner, effectively and positively communicates with Supervisor and co-workers by checking voice mail when working and utilizing communication logs in assigned settings.
  14. Ensure that all documentation, including MARs, IFRs, and other forms are being completed timely and accurately.
  15. Maintain open communication and cooperation with the supervisor regarding team member concerns, shift concerns, etc. while maintaining confidentiality regarding personnel concerns with other team members.
  16. Responsible for reviewing, documenting, and/or communicating all significant information on the individual’s progress to required data, reports, and/or persons. Responsible for assisting other team members with the completion and/or training other team members in this discipline.
  17. Follow procedures and standards to ensure quality control for all work completed. Ensure other team members are following procedures and standards to ensure quality control for all work completed.
  18. Have complete knowledge of emergency procedures and evacuation routes within the work site. Train other team members accordingly. Responsible for conducting monthly fire drills at 1200 Missouri Ave.
  19. Additional duties may be assigned as needed or requested by the Production Supervisor, Vocational Contract Coordinator, or Vocational Services Administrator, including working with caseloads or contracts other than your primary caseload(s) or contract(s).

 

POSITION RELATED QUALIFICATIONS

                                                                    EDUCATION                                                

  • Minimum high school diploma, or equivalent, preferred.       

                                                           EXPERIENCE

  • Must have worked in a similar field as a DSP, or a higher capacity for at least 6 months
  • Experience in working with people with disabilities, required. At least one full year of experience is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clear driving record.                                                     

PHYSICAL

  • Assistance with transferring and lifting up to 50 pounds.
