ABOUT THE POSITION: The Sorter/Grader’s primary responsibility is to grade the lumber coming from the Opti Edger. Putting the correct mark on the boards for Sorting line camera reads it correctly and the boards get sent to the right sort.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lumber size checks every 30 minutes and documented
- Keeping up with the flow of the mill meanwhile keeping your grade accurate.
- Watching and listening to the sorter to prevent jam ups. Being alert and aware of your surroundings.
- Keeping your work area clean, removing skewed boards before starting up
- Walk the length of the sorting line before starting up each time looking for anything that could cause a jam up or down time.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work around moving equipment.
- Willingness to rotate to other positions.
- Be a team player.
- Communication skills.
- Good attendance record. (Being to work on time)
- Basic mechanical ability
- Ability to maximize yield by getting the most out of each board.
- Ability to judge the boards accurately making sure we are getting them to the right sort.
SKILLS/PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Good Hand eye coordination
- Good judgment.
- Ability to multitask and look ahead.
- Ability to work under pressure, and stay calm
- Ability to spot issues causing you down time
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED preferred

- Repetitive motions such as bending, lifting, and turning
- Required to lift, retrieve, or reposition products weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Steel toe shoes/boots are required.
- Hard Hat provided and must be always worn in the Sawmill.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works in manufacturing environment. The noise level in the facility is usually high and hearing protection is required.
