Entry level position learning how to work with blueprints, draw floor plan requirements for fire sprinkler systems to ensure compliance, layout of fire sprinkler systems, field surveys, part listings, and provide field labor support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Learn and demonstrate knowledge of fire sprinkler codes, building codes and city / county regulations.
- Learn to design automatic sprinkler systems including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems and perform hydraulic calculations for each design.
- Learn to prepare submittal packages to send to (AHJ) Authority Having Jurisdiction and subsequent correspondence to achieve design approval.
- Prepare lists for pipe fabrication vendor and requisition materials for job.? Learn to perform field surveys to ensure design is appropriate for structure.? Assist field personnel with design related installation issues.? Learn to prepare and submit final job close-out documents after final acceptance testing.
Education and / or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 0-1 year of previous sprinkler design, mechanical aptitude and installation experience preferred.
Computer Skills
Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, experience with or knowledge of SprinkCad, AutoCad, or HydroCAD.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to perform hydraulic calculations and other standard functions.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
