Phlebotomist
Job Summary:
Perform phlebotomy procedures on all patients including pediatric patients. Perform finger-stick collections on pediatric patients when ordered. Collect urine, mucus or swabs for laboratory testing. Maintain a pleasant working environment for all staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Explain blood draw procedures to patients and answer any questions about the process.
- Help calm nervous or frightened patients and help them remain calm during the procedure.
- Gather medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, tubes, etc.
- Follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas.
- Verify patient information and label all samples properly.
- Perform phlebotomy successfully with minimal or no complications.
- Collect other laboratory samples such as urine, nasal swabs, etc.
- Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers, or patients.
- Work well in a fast-paced setting.
- Keep work area and patient waiting area clean, organized and presentable.
- Help problem solve patient issues.
- Be organized.
- Be detail oriented.
Experience:
Must have phone skills and pleasant phone voice; customer service oriented; some computer skills; able to work independently and multi-task; perform well under pressure; able to work at a fast pace.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma
Working Conditions:
Walking, sitting, bending, and standing with some light lifting
This position must be willing to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays
