Student Radiologic Technologist
Job Summary:
Part-time position-15-20 hours a week, could include Saturdays.
The student technologist will perform x-ray examinations according to department protocols and all state and federal guidelines. This includes patient preparation, positioning and imaging using proper technical factors. The student technologist will monitor the patients’ environment and safety. The student technologist will use all equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and maintenance requirements.
The student technologist will also perform phlebotomy procedures on patients. Collect urine, mucus or swabs for laboratory testing. Maintain a pleasant working environment for all staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Greets patients by confirming patient identification; reviewing imaging request; checking for special instructions
- Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of imaging procedures; explaining equipment; answering questions
- Prepare and position patient for x-ray imaging procedure
- Explain x-ray procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation
- Adjust immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body
- Move imaging equipment into specified position, determine exposure factors and adjust equipment controls to set proper exposure
- Perform specialized and routine diagnostic radiology procedures
- Process images and review for proper identification and quality control
- Prepare images for reading by radiologist or requesting physician
- Complete forms and maintain records, logs and reports of work performed
- Monitor equipment operation and report malfunctioning equipment to manager
- Perform the necessary computer/paper tasks related to patient care
- Help facilitate patient flow by communicating with back office and the patients waiting
- Keep work area and patient waiting area clean, organized and presentable
- Help problem solve patient issues
- Perform phlebotomy
- Collect other laboratory samples as urine, nasal, etc.
- Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured
- Other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
- Providing personal assistance, medical attention, emotional support, or other personal care to others such as coworkers, customers, or patients
- Work well in a fast-paced setting
- Be organized
- Be detail oriented
Experience:
Must have phone skills and pleasant phone voice; customer service oriented; some computer skills; able to multi-task; perform well under pressure; able to work at a fast pace.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma and be enrolled at Colorado Mesa University
