Job Summary:
The Billing/Accounts Receivable clerk performs manual and electronic billing to all third-party insurance and patient statements using computerized patient management billing software. This position is responsible for acquiring information for claims processing and posting all payments and EOB denials. To assure timely reimbursement to the Clinic and manage the accounts receivable, the Billing/Accountants Receivable Clerk will review and research past due accounts, follow-up on unpaid claims and re-bill if necessary, and make collection calls on unpaid accounts. They will be responsible to know and understand the details of what accounts receivable consists of and be able to explain increases, decreases, and trends. Communication with patients and assisting with front office duties may be required occasionally.
Qualifications:
1. Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of strategic planning, non-profit clinic management, supervision and administration.
2. Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of quality assurance and data and information gathering requirements in a non-profit publicly funded setting.
3. Must possess knowledge of CPT and ICD coding principles.
4. Must possess the ability to research and take necessary action on unpaid claims and patient accounts.
5. Must possess a formal education in health systems management/administration or comparable work experience.
6. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
7. Must have a professional understanding of Client/Company confidentiality agreements.
8. Must demonstrate a proficiency in the use of computer software for accounting, word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphics, e-mail and the internet.
9. Must possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
10. Must possess a valid drivers’ license.
11. Must possess current automobile insurance.
12. Must provide three (3) references of work experience with up-to-date telephone numbers.
13. Emotional and mental maturity.
14. Experience in a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) clinic is preferred.
