A behavioral health therapist works under the supervision of the behavioral health director and assistant director. A BH therapist must be a Louisiana licensed mental health professional with a minimum of two years previous counseling/therapy experience. A BH therapist will provide individual, couple, and family therapy to clients at PHSC. This includes assisting clients through psychotherapy to develop an understanding of personal problems, to define goals, and create treatment plans to manage personal and social concerns. Therapy sessions will typically last about 45 minutes. The BH therapist will also work as a team with the PHSC primary care clinic and assist the PC clinic providers with brief therapy consultations and assessments regarding clients’ care.
Qualifications:
1. Masters or Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in one of the following mental health professions: (1) Marriage and Family Therapy; (2) Counseling; (3) Social Work; or (4) Psychology.
2. Hold a Louisiana license conferred by the corresponding mental health board (ex: LPC board for LPCs and LABSWE for LCSWs, etc.) and acts in accordance with all the rights, privileges, rules, and regulations set forth by its appropriate licensing board.
3. Minimum of two years previous counseling experience dealing with individuals, families, and couples, preferably in a health care setting.
4. Must have the ability to work well with others and handle stressful situations professionally.
5. Must have excellent communication skills, both orally and in written format.
6. Must have professional composure and a positive attitude.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide culturally sensitive individual, couple, and family therapy to PHSC clients.
2. Conduct client assessments.
3. Develop personalized treatment plans for clients based on their unique needs/problems and update/revise every 3 months.
4. Maintain appropriate, precise, and current documentation of client files, including session notes, treatment plans, clients’ request for information, etc.
5. Professionally document client activity in behavioral health charts (clients’ appointment times/dates, session #’s, rescheduling, etc.).
6. Ensure that each client is current with their QPD panel results and appropriately documented.
7. Must begin clients’ sessions timely.
8. Conduct peer review evaluations of other colleagues’ work.
9. Work collaboratively with PHSC PC providers in providing whole person, integrated healthcare services.
10. Must maintain an active mental health license and complete continuing education requirements necessary to sustain licensure.
11. Must abide by appropriate mental health licensing boards’ codes of conduct and ethics.
12. Comply with PHSC’s Policies and Procedures.
13. Comply with applicable law and fully compliant and cooperate with PHSC’s Compliance Program.
14. Any other assignments deemed necessary and as assigned.
