We are looking for a dynamic leader to manage and optimize transportation and customs compliance operations for our growing organization in Virginia Beach, VA. This position will oversee the movement of goods across the United States, Canada, and internationally, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maximizing efficiency in our logistics processes.
This role offers the opportunity to create and develop a department from the ground up, implement innovative processes, and make a significant impact on a rapidly expanding company.
Key Responsibilities
Spearhead strategic initiatives to improve customs compliance and streamline domestic and international transportation operations, collaborating with partners such as customs brokers, carriers (ocean, over-the-road, drayage), and NVOCCs.Design and execute a comprehensive compliance program that ensures adherence to all relevant regulations governing imports and exports.Negotiate with carriers to achieve the most cost-effective freight rates while supporting the organization’s logistics objectives.Oversee day-to-day transportation and customs-related functions, identifying and implementing cost-saving measures across the supply chain.Lead efforts to classify products accurately under harmonized tariff schedules (HTS) and export control classification numbers (ECCN) for U.S. and Canadian regulations. Maintain an updated product classification database with supporting documentation.Ensure correct country-of-origin details and labeling for all products.Partner with internal departments—including Distribution, Fulfillment, Field Operations, Inventory, Manufacturing, and Procurement—to meet transportation requirements and support broader organizational goals.Develop and maintain performance scorecards for logistics providers to ensure accountability and high-quality service.Standardize logistics processes to drive operational excellence and consistent value for the business.Execute an annual request for quotation (RFQ) process for transportation services.Provide strategic leadership on logistics-related projects, serving as a key advisor on shipping operations.Identify and implement process improvements to prepare the logistics function for future growth.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.5-7 years of experience in customs compliance and domestic / international logistics.At least 3 years of experience in a leadership role within the transportation or logistics sector.Deep knowledge of U.S. and international trade regulations, including EAR, CCL, HTSUS, ISF, and Incoterms.Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.Strong analytical capabilities with demonstrated financial acumen.Proven track record of exceeding expectations and achieving significant results.Willingness to travel up to 35%.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office tools.Self-starter with excellent attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset.Experience in continuous improvement, project management, budgeting, and cost forecasting.Ability to foster collaborative relationships across teams and departments.Demonstrated ability to take ownership of responsibilities and drive impactful outcomes.
