About Primavera Foundation
The Primavera Foundation is co-creating pathways out of poverty through housing, workforce development, homeownership and financial education, and community building and engagement.
The Kitchen Team Member is responsible for managing Men's Shelter kitchen operations, including preparing and serving meals, working closely with community meal teams, ensuring that all food handling / storage regulations meet compliance standards, managing food and supply inventories, and training staff and volunteers that cover various meal shifts.
The successful candidate will be adept at working both independently and as part of a team (and able to shift between the two with ease), able to work with diverse groups of people, demonstrating kindness and cultural sensitivity, process-oriented, fast-paced, and extremely detail-oriented and thorough.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by leadership) :
- Manage activities involving the kitchen and serving of meals
- Follow standard health and sanitation procedures as required by the Pima County Health Department, including but not limited to :
Provide servers with disposable gloves and proper kitchen utensils
Ensure that the proper temperature of food is maintained at all timeDate and properly store all donated and / or purchased foods using a first-in, first-out procedure, rotating suppliesEnsure proper and timely disposal of outdated foodEnsure meal prep and kitchen cleaning procedures are followedSupervise delivery of meals by meal teams, supporting and assisting them as neededPrepare and serve meals on days when it is not provided by volunteers, using donated food as much as possibleWork with other Primavera programs and the Program Co-manager to distribute excess food, minimizing waste as much as possibleClean kitchen and prep area after each meal and other times as needed in compliance with shelter cleaning proceduresCommunicate any participant concerns to the Program Manager, and other shelter staff and ensure documentation as applicableIssue receipts for donations as appropriateInteract with participants, volunteers, Shelter, and organizational staff professionally, reflecting Primavera's Guiding Principles of integrity, respect, accountability, compassion, and leadershipAttend Men's Shelter team staff meetings, quarterly all-staff meetings, and other training sessions and meetings as requestedBe familiar with other Shelter operations and procedures, and enforce Shelter guidelines to maintain a safe and peace of duties as assigned by leadershipKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of issues facing people who are homelessAbility to work effectively with diverse populations including participants, volunteers, and other shelter staff, in a respectful, professional mannerKnowledge of the operations of a kitchen preparing food and serving up to 100 people at a timeAbility to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations with ServSafe certificationWorking knowledge of emergency procedures, including fire evacuation, participant medical and behavioral concernsMinimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalency1 year of experience working with people experiencing mental health concerns, substance use, housing insecurities, or lived experienceProficiency with computer systems and software, including database programsAbility to work evenings, and weekends as needed and be flexible to meet shelter needsReliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and proof of current registration and insurance coverage to attend off-site meetings and travel between locationsServSafe Certification, or the ability to obtainMental Health First Aid Certification, or the ability to obtainFirst Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtainLevel 1 Fingerprint clearance card, or ability to obtainPreferred Qualifications
Bilingual - English / Spanish2 years of experience working with people in a shelter setting, trauma-related work experience, or direct behavioral health servicesExtensive Knowledge of working with people experiencing addiction or mental health issuesKnowledge of ServicePoint (HMIS) system to easily transition into the positionPhysical Environment / Conditions
Ability to work in a busy environment with moderate noise levelAbility to remain on feet for extended periods, climb a flight of stairs, bend, stoop, and lift 50 poundsIf driving a Primavera vehicle, must possess a valid Arizona driver's license and submit proof of a clean driving record
