What are the responsibilities and job description for the HS Department Chair - Social Studies position at Primavera Online School?
- Strengthen the assigned teachers with positive leadership and best practices and feedback to all teaching staff.
- Assist in resolving issues within their department, including students, parents & teachers.
- Assist with parent / student concerns.
- Promote positive communication of operational issues and weekly reminders to teachers.
- When needed, participate in new teacher interviews.
- Meet with Academic Leadership on weekly basis and promote department progress.
- Conduct monthly department meetings.
- Provide feedback bi-weekly to new instructors including but not limited to PTO/PST procedures, course extension procedures, and instructional needs.
- Assist in the writing of policies and procedures, and other projects, as directed.
- Proactive in soliciting feedback for the Curriculum team.
- Attend IEP meetings in the absence of an invited teacher.
- Conduct instructor evaluations.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and Director of Academics
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to supervise and lead a teaching staff.
- Knowledge of POHS/POMS teacher mentoring program.
- Knowledge of all technology systems being used in the instruction department.
- Ability to establish work priorities and work independently without supervision.
- Ability to handle and resolve problems.
- Strong communication skills
Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Arizona 6-12 Teachers Certification Required
- Highly qualified in High School Social Studies
- Current valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Teaching experience at the secondary education level preferred
- Leadership experience preferred
- Experience in online education required
- Must be able to work onsite in Chandler, AZ
