What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Laboratory Technician position at Prime Healthcare?
- Collect, process, and prepare specimens such as blood, urine, and other bodily fluids for analysis.
- Perform routine and specialized tests to analyze specimens and provide data on patient health, which may include tests in hematology, chemistry, and other areas.
- Interpret lab test results and ensure accuracy, you may also enter data into laboratory information systems and prepare reports for healthcare providers.
- Follow quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results, this may involve calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and performing routine maintenance tasks.
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards, which could include maintaining a clean and organized work environment and using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Occasionally interact with patients, particularly when collecting specimens, and explain procedures to ensure patient comfort and cooperation.
- Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
- ASCP certification, or equivalent, required.
- Associates Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
- 3 years of hospital laboratory work experience.
