Overview

The Assistant Construction Superintendent plays a crucial role in supporting the planning, tracking, and management of construction projects. This position is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day management of projects, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with environmental and legal regulations. The Assistant Superintendent will collaborate closely with the Superintendent and Project Manager to manage project timelines, oversee site activities, and promote positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and key stakeholders. This role also focuses on risk management, cost control, and the implementation of modern construction technologies such as Procore and Bluebeam software.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily management of construction projects, including scheduling, procurement, and subcontractor coordination, to ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
• Identify potential risks early in the project lifecycle, and implement proactive strategies to mitigate them. Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and project-specific quality control procedures.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and third-party partners. Attend client and architectural meetings regularly and contribute to discussions about project design, progress, and any potential issues.
• Contribute to the creation and management of detailed project schedules, including the use of 3-week look-ahead tools. Coordinate construction activities and services across teams to ensure deadlines are met.
• Ensure all site activities comply with safety regulations. Conduct safety inspections and submit regular safety reports. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans), ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), and building codes.
• Supervise and mentor assigned project staff, including subordinate Assistant Superintendents and Killian’s self-perform employees. Lead weekly subcontractor and project team meetings to ensure smooth project execution and resolve any site issues.
• Actively contribute to the project’s Quality Control program by monitoring ongoing work to ensure it meets project specifications. Collaborate with the Project Manager to address any issues and ensure proper documentation is maintained throughout the project.
• Promote sustainable building practices and ensure project compliance with energy efficiency certifications, such as LEED. Identify opportunities for Value Engineering to balance cost control and environmental responsibility.
• Assist in punch-list inspections, commissioning, and obtaining warranty and closeout documentation. Ensure that all as-built drawings are accurate and both hard and electronic copies are submitted for final turnover to the owner.
• Manage and monitor the use of project assets, vehicles, equipment, and materials. Ensure that all resources are used safely and effectively.

Qualifications

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

·         2 years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Field Engineer, or similar role in commercial construction.

·         Proven experience supervising construction trades and leading on-site teams.

·         OSHA 30-hour certification (required).

·         First Aid/CPR certification (required).

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project).

·         Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and BIM software.

·         Familiarity with Apple mobility devices and applications.

·         Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor site staff.

·         Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.

·         Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, subcontractors, and the project team.

Physical Requirements

Standing and walking on-site up to 75% of the time.Sitting and working in an office environment up to 25% of the time.
