Our primary care practice is seeking for a Medical and Office Assistant to join our team . The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented, with a background in medical office. This job opening has opportunity to advance rapidly in job description.
Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and provide them with necessary information.
- Ability to perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, filing medical records, and preparing patient charts.
- Knowledge in health care field, insurance and EMR systems, preferably knowledge in eCW EMR
- Take vital signs, such as blood pressure and temperature.
- Insurance Verification and Prior Authorization.
- Assist physicians with patient examinations and treatments.
- Performs EKG, administers vaccines and medications via IM/SC/ID/Oral and assist in procedures/treatments as requested by physician and with supervision.
- Draw blood for send out
- Perform point of care (POC) laboratory tests and procedures
- Assist in minor minimal procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Maintains quality control (i.e. Glucometer, eyewash and refrigerator temperature) and cleaning logs as needed for the department.
- Complies with Infection Control and OSHA Regulations (biomedical wastes, handling and disposal) for the center as per regulations.
- Checks equipment and supplies prior to use for function, inspection and expiration date; reports malfunction of medical equipment and safety issues to supervisor.
- Takes pharmacy phone calls, reviews charts, and calls in prescription refills.
- Monitors pharmacy samples, removing from stock as expired.
- Maintain medications and supply log
- Receives and returns phone calls from patients and other external sources. Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR
- Understanding of HIPAA requirements.
- May also be responsible for insurance pre-certification, prior authorization, procedure/surgery scheduling and coordinating transfers and admissions.
Preferred Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
One (1) year of Medical Assistant
BLS certification
Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred
Phlebotomy certification
Experience in electronic medical records systems (eCW preferred), Excel and Word
Relevant or any other job-related vocational coursework
