Circulating OR RN

Job Description

The Circulating (OR) Registered Nurse manages all the necessary care inside the surgery room, assisting
the team in maintaining and creating a comfortable, safe environment for the patient and observing the team
from a wide perspective. This Circulating RN must ensure that the surgical team members perform in a
unified effort, directing care and activities with the team for the patient’s best interest.

Functions:
 Plans patient care and ensures patient information such as allergies and other health issues are
documented.
 Obverses, checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running
smoothly; handles patient documentation.
 Hooks up any necessary suction and cauterization equipment and assist the anesthetist with
intubation.
 Provides surgical team with sterile fluids sterile fluids and medications as needed.
 Provides for accurate care and handling of specimens.
 Observes and enforces strict standards of asepsis.
 Checks and evaluate the patient’s needs to ensure positive outcome.
 Interacts and participates in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel,
patients, students, families and visitors.
 Promotes/supports growth of others through mentoring when appropriate.
 Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment.
 Follows facility and GHR Unusual Occurrence Protocol.
 Respects cultural and religious practices of patients.
 Upholds HIPAA regulations.
 Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts.
 Any additional duties assigned by management.
 Travels to facilities on a need be basis.

Position Requirements:
 Graduate of an accredited nursing program
 Current nursing license, in good standing with the State licensing board
 Minimum of two years OR experience
 Cognitive skills as related to the position
 Department of Justice Background Check
 Satisfactory Completion of Health/Drug Screening
 Proof legal US work eligibility
 Valid Transportation
 Valid CA Class C Driver License
 Current ACLS, PALS, and BLS certification

Skills and Qualifications:
 Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers, managers, patients, visitors, vendors, families and
physicians
 Ability to promote a positive facility image with physicians, patients, visitors, vendors and the general
public
 Ability to make decisions and solve problem
 Ability to follow direction and corporate policy and procedures
 Reliable and punctual
