General Summary : As a Claims Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the claims handling process by assisting the claims team and ensuring the efficient processing of claims. Your responsibilities will include initial contact and creation of a claim file(s), communicating with policyholders, and providing excellent customer service to help facilitate a smooth claims experience.
Important Note : The Claims Assistant role is a temporary-to-hire employment opportunity. During the three-month trial period, skills, performance, and compatibility with the organization will be evaluated. If both parties find the role suitable after this period, an offer may be extended for regular full-time employment as a Claims Assistant.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Respond to incoming calls and emails from clients about their claims, collecting all relevant legal and medical information.
- Assist claims analyst with the processing and management of medical liability insurance claims from inception to resolution.
- Conduct data entry and assist with administrative tasks as needed, including filing and managing correspondence.
- Establish and maintain claim files, including verifying coverage, documenting legal and medical records, and assigning defense counsel as needed.
- Input claim files into the computer system and document all occurrences with dated diary notes.
- Collaborate with other departments (Underwriting, Legal, Finance) throughout the claims process.
- Arrange for expert reviews and prepare necessary materials, ensuring timely follow-ups.
- Update the claims database daily to reflect changes and ensure accuracy.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A high school diploma is required; candidates who are actively pursuing a four-year college degree are encouraged to apply; associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience in insurance, administrative, or customer service role is required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-focused mindset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and insurance processes is preferred.
