Job Summary:
The Vice President of Operations, Solar EPC, will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the engineering, planning, start-up, and construction phases of solar EPC projects. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the safe execution of projects, maintaining high-quality standards, and overseeing operational efficiency across the organization. They will have a deep understanding of construction methods, project management fundamentals, budgeting, procurement, contract negotiations, and sub-contractor/supplier management. The VP of Operations will foster strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
· Safety: Establish a safety-first culture across the organization and projects, ensuring that no business goals are pursued at the expense of the health and welfare of employees and subcontractors. Lead by example to encourage positive safety behaviors on each project.
· Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the operations team, developing professional and respectful leaders who will drive excellence across all facets of project management. Ensure the deployment of the project management system that positions the company as a leader in the market and fosters a culture of continuous improvement.
· High-Performance Teams: Hire and develop high-caliber professionals with the skills and leadership qualities necessary to produce top-tier outcomes for the company. Foster a collaborative and engaging environment that allows team members to achieve both personal and professional growth.
· Quality Product: Lead the development and implementation of a program that guarantees high-quality, high-performing solar power plants. Uphold engineering and quality standards to deliver on promises made to clients.
· Customer Service: Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients, anticipating their needs and ensuring commitments are met on time and within budget. Promote transparency and work proactively to enhance the client’s bottom line.
· On-Time Execution: Implement and optimize the project management program to proactively manage project schedules and ensure on-time delivery of all projects.
· Operational Excellence: Drive operational excellence through the consistent execution of the business strategy. Focus on improving operational efficiency, reducing costs, and driving revenue growth to deliver a competitive advantage for the company. Establish systems to ensure predictable and reliable results.
· Continuous Improvement: Lead the adoption of continuous improvement methodologies, including Lean Thinking and Six Sigma, to optimize processes across procurement, project management, and customer service. Incorporate lessons learned into the company’s operations to drive ongoing performance improvements.
· Fiscal Responsibility: Lead the financial management of projects to ensure predictability and profitability. Implement effective budgeting, planning, and forecasting processes, ensuring the company’s financial health through timely project execution and cash flow management.
· Talent Development: Prioritize the development of talent within the organization through consistent coaching, feedback, and performance management. Create a development pathway that allows the team to grow into future leaders of the organization.
Education & Experience Requirements:
· 15 years of experience in construction management, with a proven track record in the solar industry.
· 10 years of experience specifically in solar construction projects.
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent 8 years of construction experience).
· Demonstrated leadership experience in managing people and projects within the solar EPC industry.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
· Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Valid current driver’s license and eligibility for corporate vehicle insurance coverage.
· Valid current passport and willingness to travel internationally as needed.
· Extensive travel required for project oversight and client engagement.
