POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Library Media Specialist – High School
Reports To: Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary: To empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and users of information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Operates and supervises the library to which assigned
2. Evaluates, selects, requisitions, processes, and catalogs library materials
3. Assists teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials and makes library materials available to supplement the instructional program
4. Works with students to develop independent library skills including the use of reference materials
5. Conducts an annual inventory of materials and equipment
6. Participates in curriculum and staff development meetings
7. Organizes and maintains a check-out system for audio-visual hardware and repairs as needed
8. Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials, and instructs teachers and students on the use of the system
9. Arranges for interlibrary loan of materials of interest to teachers
10. Prepares and implements the library budget
11. Participates actively in library and other educational and professional associations
12. Promotes appropriate conduct of students using library facilities
13. Supervises clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the library
14. Performs other duties as may be assigned
