POSITION TYPE:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To maintain the security and safety of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors
Assist the administrative staff with enforcing policies and procedures for safe and orderly school building
Patrol campus and maintain security of buildings and grounds
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required
Security experience in a public school preferred
Some experience or training in a security-related field or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of security procedures and best practices
Ability to acquire knowledge of School Board policies and procedures and Student Rights and Responsibilities
Must have basic computer skills using Microsoft Office programs
Must possess excellent human relations skills
Must possess a valid Virginia’s driver’s license with positive DMV points
REPORTS TO:
Building Administrator
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide a safe secure environment for students, staff, and guests on campus
Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff, and community members
Supervises and directs pupil movement
Assist with fire drills and all other crisis prevention measures/evacuations
Help to create and maintain a working relationship with the local police, fire, and rescue departments
Detects, investigates, and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities
Assists administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations
Regulate students’ behavior on campus, in cafeterias, restrooms, parking lots, and other open areas
Assist with controlling classroom disturbances or acts of defiance. Request assistance from school administration and/or police when necessary
Works with school administrators and law enforcement officials in handling serious student offenses and law violations
Investigates potential campus crimes and/or student related incidents for the purpose of resolving conflicts and/or referring to outside agency for resolution
Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate safety concerns
Prepares documentation (e.g. incident and activity reports, security logs, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information
Follow district policies and administrative rules and regulations
Testifies in court and at School Board Disciplinary Review Committee hearings as required.
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
Demonstrate problem solving and responsible decision making skills
Performs other related duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
180 days a year. Salary according to School Pay Plan.
EVALUATION
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of non-licensed personnel.
