The Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections, & Enforcement is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Administrative Aidegrade A17, in the Administrative Hearing Board. 


About the Position:

This position provides administrative and secretarial support to the Administrative Hearing Unit. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of administrative procedures and exercise mature judgment in following through on assignments. The incumbent is responsible for applying a broad knowledge of the functions of County Government, coordinates and manages office activities to fulfill varied responsibilities within the Director’s Office. All work is performed under the supervision of an Administrative Specialist I that manages the Administrative Hearing Unit. It is important to understand that DPIE is a service agency. As such, this position requires the incumbent to be physically and medically capable of working both inside and outside in extreme weather conditions (heat/cold wet/humid, snow/ice, and/or dry/arid conditions). Incumbent is required to be both physically and medically capable of remaining in a stationary position, either sitting at a computer terminal, standing at a service counter or in a mobile position, or as deemed necessary. This position requires incumbent to be capable of lifting, pulling, or carrying items that exceed (5) pounds, as well as moving office supplies and equipment that weigh up to thirty (30) pounds. Please be advised that regardless of the incumbent’s normally assigned duties, this position requires the incumbent to be willing and both physically and medically capable of working overtime and on weekends for special program events. About The Agency:
The Department of Permitting, Inspections and Enforcement (DPIE) is responsible for coordinating and enforcing standards that control what goes on before, during, and after construction. Staff from nine agencies, who work cooperatively on permit processing, business licensing, plan review, inspection and enforcement comprise Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement. The Mission of the Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement is to promote economic development in Prince George's County and protect the safety of County residents, businesses, and visitors through efficient permitting, inspection and licensing services to ensure compliance with established building, zoning and property standards codes.    
  • Assists in planning, coordinating and maintaining administrative and secretarial support for the Administrative Hearing Board/Program on a continual basis. 
  • Readily assists supervisor with implementation of work policies and procedures. 
  • Ensures that all correspondence is formulated in conformance with County, Department and Office guidelines. 
  • Prepares hearing record, case files, meeting, and summons notices of all cases and mails to appropriate parties within designated timeframe.
  • Records proceedings and prepares reports in the form of Fact and Findings, Notices of Action and meeting minutes and related correspondence within designated timeframe. 
  • Assists in planning, coordinating and maintaining administrative and secretarial support for the Administrative Hearing Unit. 
  • Assists supervisor with general implementation of work policies and procedures. 
  • Is thoroughly knowledgeable of the functions of the Administrative Hearing Unit, as well as the Director’s Office and assists the manager/supervisor and staff within the Office in achieving the goals and objectives of the Department.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with coursework in typing, office practices or other related clerical subjects; plus 
  • One (1) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which must have involved working with the public for at least six (6) months. 
  • Applicants must be proficient in typing and in shorthand where required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one year of experience working in a district/circuit court, or administrative adjudicative body. 
  • Experience providing assistance with legal summons, notices, complaints, and orders.
  • At least one year of customer service experience.

Conditions of Employment:  Upon selection, the candidate must: 

  1. Applicants who meet minimum qualifications must pass an administered Administrative Aide exam.

  2. Must pass a thorough background investigation.
  3. Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  4. Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
  5. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate.  Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave if applicable.
