The Prince George’s County Department of Health is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Lead Reentry Peer Support Specialist, (Community Developer 3) grade A24 position, in the Behavorial Health division.
About the Position
This position is professional-level lead peer support work within the Health Department Reentry Support Program. The incumbent provides assistance for returning citizens including outreach, education, and supports in navigating the health care system, and serves as a valuable and credible role model to incarcerated persons enrolled in the program upon their release from the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections or State/Federal correctional facility. This role includes providing leadership to other reentry support peers, completing administrative tasks, helping reentering individuals engage in treatment and support services, anticipating and addressing challenges of reentry, and assisting with maintaining adherence to any conditions of release.

The department is composed of four divisions: Behavioral Health Services, Environmental Health and Disease Control, Family Health Services, and Health and Wellness, supported by the Office of Administration, Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Health Officer. The mandate of the department has been, and will remain, broad. This plan emphasizes improving core functions and operations, including protecting the public from health threats, implementing strategies to support healthy living, and maintaining a focus on vulnerable populations, while developing efficient internal processes to support these activities.
Makes caseload assignments for reentry peer support specialists.
Reviews documentation/case notes.
Demonstrates useful skills and effective problem-solving strategies.
Shares and provides experience and coaching in regard to employment, training, and/or obtaining housing.
Supports client's engagement in mental health and substance abuse treatment service.
Provides information on the rights and responsibilities of discharged offenders and satisfying criminal justice system requirements and conditions.
Participates in reentry outreach activities.
- Bachelor's degree or public administration, social services, sociology, psychology, or related field.
- Two (2) years of responsible community development supervisory work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in the State of Maryland.
- A minimum of five (5) years direct experience working as a peer recovery specialist with justice-involved individuals
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a leadership role as a peer recovery specialist.
- Training as a Peer Support Specialist Supervisor.
- Certification in delivering the Level of Services/Case Management Inventory (LS/CMI).
- Experience using Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) database or other electronic database.
- Experience working with community-based agencies/organizations to access resources/services for returning citizens.
