The Prince George’s County Department of Health is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Peer Recovery Support Specialist, (Community Developer Assistant II) grade A14 position, in the Behavorial Health Services division.
About The Position
This is full-performance professional work, providing services to adults dealing with substance use or in recovery. This program is supported by the Maryland Governor's Heroin and Opioid Prevention, Treatment, and Enforcement Initiative. Supportive services are provided to alleviate barriers through comprehensive care coordination using a multisystem strength-based, trauma-informed approach to improve outcomes. Work is performed under the general supervision of a high-level supervisor. Work performance is evaluated in terms of quality, timeliness, and resourcefulness. Services are non-clinical, and community based. Community referrals are received from local substance use treatment providers, medical providers, domestic violence programs, recovery centers, the Department of Social Services, and the court system.

The department is composed of four divisions: Behavioral Health Services, Environmental Health and Disease Control, Family Health Services, and Health and Wellness, supported by the Office of Administration, Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Health Officer. The mandate of the department has been, and will remain, broad. This plan emphasizes improving core functions and operations, including protecting the public from health threats, implementing strategies to support healthy living, and maintaining a focus on vulnerable populations, while developing efficient internal processes to support these activities.

Examples of Work
- Serves as a role model and practical living example of recovery.
- Provides support by listening, sharing of recovery experience, and discussing strengths individuals have to support and sustain their own recovery.
- Provides assistance with establishing and setting recovery goals and plans which include culturally competent and relevant services.
- Completes all clients contact documentation while adhering to professional standards and accordance with the Behavioral Health Services Division's requirements.
- Develops and maintains automated client record in the agency's and the state's electronic medical record systems in accordance with identified guidelines.
- Graduation from high school, supplemented by college level coursework in business, psychology or sociology.
- Six (6) months experience in work requiring independent action based on mature judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of two years of recovery from lived experience in substance use and/or co-occurring mental health disorders.
- Certified as a Peer Recovery Specialist in the state of Maryland by the Maryland Addictions and Behavioral Health Certification Board (MABPCB).
- Experience working with Epic medical record system.

- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle when required for the performance of job-related duties.
