The Prince George’s County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Construction Standards Inspector III, grade A20, in the Stormwater Management Division.

Examples of Work
- Conducts investigations to identify illicit connections and discharges into the County’s storm drain system with standard procedures.
- Remains knowledgeable about current Federal, State, and local codes and permits governing the discharge of pollutants and interprets the code and permits for others.
- Performs inspections and maintenance assessments of private stormwater management facilities to support compliance with the County’s NPDES MS4 Permit for stormwater management.
- Establishes and maintains records and files for all project/program assignments.
- Maintains communication through consultations with program managers, supervisor, other governmental personnel, citizens, professionals, contractors, and officials to ensure all channels of communication are maintained.
- Effectively educates violators on control measures, standard practices, techniques, and methodologies to eliminate pollutant sources.
- Diligently follows all safety procedures, ensures that all equipment is up to date, in working condition and is always used, handled, and stored according to the manufacturer’s guidelines and procedures.
- Understands and communicates the plans, specifications, codes, and/or standards to property owners and/or lessee or contractors in accordance with established guidelines.
- Maintains and utilizes knowledge of the County’s organizational structure and Code enforcement authority to resolve water quality infractions.
- Interprets current State and local code requirements for pollution control and stormwater management maintenance and accurately interprets the code for others.
- Handles matters comprehensively and completely. Customer service is given high priority.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, plus at least two (2) years of experience which has provided the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the duties in the appropriate functional areas of site/development, right-of-way, sediment/grading/ erosion/storm water control, and materials or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permits (NPDES).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of standards, specifications, construction, inspection, and maintenance methods/requirements for best management practices (BMPs), aligned with stormwater management, environmental and water quality restoration, and flood control projects.
