Specific tasks include the development and review of project resumes, negotiation of architectural / engineering (A / E) consultant services, direction of design services, detailed plan review, utility relocations and, as appropriate, inspection of work. A significant portion of time is devoted to the direct supervision of consultant engineering personnel engaged on the projects.About the AgencyThe Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs / gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T's workforce keeps the County's various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.Examples of Work

• Performs entry-level routine and less complex work assignments in the fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs and equipment.
• Operates automotive, mechanical, hydraulic and other equipment in order to install maintain traffic control signage and communications equipment.
• Performs preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance of pavement markings and traffic control signage such as roadway and street signs, VMS boards, Spans and Cantilever signs and structures, Speed Trailers, Arrow Boards, and other traffic control devices.
• Prepares daily activity reports and maintains appropriate records.
• Responds to "on call" emergency service calls and / or Special events on a 24-hour basis.
• Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.Qualifications
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate

• Previous experience working with electrical, mechanical, construction and traffic safety background.
• Ability to perform manual labor around shop facility and signalized intersections safely, effectively, and efficiently.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and the general public.
• Ability to operate small hand-held power equipment (drills, soft / chop saws, impact wrenches, jigsaws).Additional InformationJob Location : Forestville, MDConditions of Employment : Upon selection, the candidate must :
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Willingness to work outdoors in any kind of weather.
