The Prince George's CountyDepartmentof Public Works & Transportation (DPW&T)is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill aTraffic Service Worker(Traffic Service Worker 2A), grade A10 in theConcrete Crewdivision.
About the Position
This position is responsible for performing supervisory level engineering management to the implementation of the County's Capital Improvement Program for Roadways and Bridges. Specific tasks include the development and review of project resumes, negotiation of architectural / engineering (A / E) consultant services, direction of design services, detailed plan review, utility relocations and, as appropriate, inspection of work. A significant portion of time is devoted to the direct supervision of consultant engineering personnel engaged on the projects.
About the Agency
The Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPW&T) is responsible for nearly 2,000 miles of County-maintained roadways that range from rural to urban classifications. The transportation infrastructure includes 900 bridges, as well as shoulders, sidewalks, curbs / gutters, stormwater management facilities, driveway aprons and nearly 3,000 acres of grassy area all of which are maintained by staff of the Department. DPW&T's workforce keeps the County's various services moving by performing a myriad of activities which include removing snow and ice from County-maintained roadways, upgrading traffic signals, installing streetlights, clearing fallen trees, unclogging drainage inlets and maintaining stormwater management facilities, as well as performing roadway repairs ranging from potholes and sidewalk trip hazards to bridge repairs and resurfacing projects and more.
Examples of Work
- Performs entry-level routine and less complex work assignments in the fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs and equipment.
- Operates automotive, mechanical, hydraulic and other equipment in order to install maintain traffic control signage and communications equipment.
- Performs preventive, routine, and emergency maintenance of pavement markings and traffic control signage such as roadway and street signs, VMS boards, Spans and Cantilever signs and structures, Speed Trailers, Arrow Boards, and other traffic control devices.
- Prepares daily activity reports and maintains appropriate records.
- Responds to on call emergency service calls and / or Special events on a 24-hour basis.
- Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class of work.
Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledges, skills and abilities may also be accepted.
