Process Engineer

Manufacturing Process Engineer

Onsite: Mills River, North Carolina

JOB SUMMARY:

A Manufacturing/Process Engineer is responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining industrial processes and systems to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and safe operations. They work to enhance product quality, improve production efficiency, and reduce waste.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Process Design and Development:
    • Design and develop new processes, systems, and equipment to improve production efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure high-quality standards.
    • Perform process simulations and modeling to predict outcomes and improve system performance.
    • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  2. Process Optimization:
    • Analyze current processes and identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.
    • Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies to enhance production efficiency.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues that affect quality, safety, or productivity.
  3. Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Collect and analyze data from manufacturing operations to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Prepare reports and presentations on process performance, improvements, and cost-saving initiatives for senior management.
  4. Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all processes comply with safety standards, environmental regulations, and quality assurance practices.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols to minimize hazards and ensure workplace safety.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality control, and maintenance teams to improve processes and resolve issues.
    • Provide technical support and training to production personnel on new processes and equipment.
  6. Cost Management:
    • Develop cost estimates for new processes or modifications to existing processes.
    • Implement cost-saving measures through process improvements and waste reduction.
  7. Project Management:
    • Lead or participate in projects to upgrade equipment, implement new technologies, or scale up processes from pilot to full-scale production.
    • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality and safety standards.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for tooling design and development
  • Knowledge of sheet metal forming processes, stamping, punching, bending, and welding techniques, preferred
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex systems and identify root causes of inefficiencies or failures.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with team members, management, and external stakeholders.

EQUIPMENT USED

  • Computer software including CAD, MRP/Epicor and Microsoft Office
  • Various production related tools including hand tools, power tools, machine tools, forklift, platform lifts and other specialty equipment
  • Safety equipment – Safety glasses, gloves, steel or composite toed shoes, hearing protection and other equipment as designated by the job being performed

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Team member must be able to sit, climb, stand, bend, stoop, crouch, walk, and freely use hands and arms to feel, touch, reach and grasp tools and equipment.
  • Required to work at varying heights- must be able to use lift equipment and climb ladders
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
  • Regularly lifts and/or move up to 25lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit or stand for several hours at a time. Repetitive arm movement is also required to perform this job. The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment due to working with and around flammables and other chemicals. Due to noise levels this job requires the employee to wear hearing protection. This area is heated in cold weather conditions however, not air conditioned for hot weather. Therefore, the employee is subjected to heat conditions as it relates to outside temperatures. Employee. The office area is climate controlled. This job requires the employee to move in and around a moving manufacturing line and enter confined spaces.
