Position Purpose: The Assistant Principal’s primary job responsibility is the supervision, discipline, and monitoring of students. The Assistant Principal, under the direction of the Building Principal, implements and enforces school board policies, administrative rules and regulations. In the absence of the Building Principal, the Assistant Principal shall act in the capacity of the Building Principal.
Reporting Relationship: Building Principal
Essential Functions:
- Assists the Building Principal in fostering the faith formation and spiritual growth of the faculty, staff and students while promoting the school’s Catholic identity.
- Assists the Building Principal in defining the school’s mission and communicating goals and expectations of the total school program.
- Adheres to and enforces board policy, school guidelines, administrative directives, and school standards.
- Assists in curriculum development to meet the needs of all students.
- Assists the Building Principal with special education implementation.
- Supervises staff members assigned by the Building Principal.
- Assists in the hiring and mentoring of staff.
- Oversees the development and administration of policies dealing with discipline, conduct and attendance.
- Assists the Building Principal in the day-to-day management of the school.
- Enforces student behavior code to maintain proper discipline and conduct.
- Communicates relevant policies and procedures with regard to student discipline, conduct, and attendance to students, staff, and parents.
- Works with and assists faculty in the development of effective classroom discipline and organization.
- Works with the Building Principal in the preparation of appropriate handbooks.
- Oversees the collection, storage, management and distribution of data in the school’s information systems and assists authorized personnel in evaluating and analyzing data on graduation requirements, campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
- Assists the Building Principal with the school’s assessment program.
- Prepares the master schedule, registers and schedules students for classes.
- Provides guidance to students on post-secondary educational and vocational opportunities.
- Prepares required reports and documentation as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal.

- Exhibits a professional attitude and demeanor at all times in dealing with the board, school administration, fellow employees, parents, students and the public.
- Understands and has experience with curriculum and the scheduling process.
- Possesses an understanding of student achievement data and current educational trends.
- Supervises students and implements appropriate disciplinary measures.
Education/Training and/or Experience Requirements:
- B.A. degree in Education
- Masters degree in Educational Administration or will complete the degree within one year
- Minimum three years teaching experience
- Valid Administrative or Conditional Administrative license in the state of Iowa
