What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of School Facilities position at Prince of Peace Catholic School?

Assistant Director General Description: The assistant director of school facilities has both “hands on” responsibility and supervisory responsibility for the upkeep, maintenance. and smooth functioning of Prince of Peace Catholic School. He or she reports directly to the president or principal of the school.
Specific Duties:
- Maintenance Tasks: Makes basic repairs and does routine maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, replacing ceiling tiles, making classroom deliveries, assembling furniture, and communicating with administration those things which may require more specialized attention from outside vendors.
- Supervisory Tasks: Supervises the performance of the custodial team with which the school has a contract and/or other members of the school custodial team. Insures everyone works by an agreed upon schedule and completes tasks well.
- Event Setups: Assists with setting up for school events, meetings, or special activities by arranging furniture or equipment as needed.
- Inventory Management: Keeps track of supplies, tools, and equipment, and notifies admin when supplies need to be replenished.
- Collaboration with Staff: Cooperates with teachers, administrators, and other staff to address specific needs or issues related to set up and maintenance. Understands he or she is a member of a team and tries to build that sense with co-workers. Works collaboratively with the director of parish facilities.
- Adherence to Safety Procedures: Follows proper safety protocols, including the use of protective gear and the correct handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Emergency Response: Is flexible and prepared to respond to emergency situations like spills, floods, or other unexpected events requiring immediate attention, even if after hours.
- Working with Vendors: If authorized, calls vendors, gets quotes, and negotiates prices for items or services the school may need; follows-up and monitors vendor until job is complete.
- Building Security: Ensures the school is properly locked up each day, that closets and supplies are secure, that the gates outside are opened and shut each day and the like.
- Other duties: As assigned by the president or principal of the school on a case-by-case basis.
Essential Traits:
- Can communicate via email and has a basic knowledge of MS office suite.
- Organized; can handle multiple requests for action, prioritizes these requests, and communicate completion of tasks to those directly affected.
- Shows pride in the school and the way the school presents itself to staff and visitors.
- Shows initiative; sees things that need doing and completes them without necessarily being tasked to do so by others.
- Is disciplined and trustworthy, does not typically need supervision, but is open to it when given.
- Collaborates with other members of the staff in a helpful, friendly, professional way.
- Physical requirements: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally the employee will lift or move up to 80 pounds. The employee will sometimes climb ladders, push or pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines, etc. This job requires close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Hours: Full Time. Normal hours, 7:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sometimes weekends/nights, as specified by school.
Salary: Exempt, commensurate with experience.
Timeline: To begin June 1, 2025. Will work with current assistant facilities director who is moving in July.
