Prince William County is excited to offer an internship opportunity with various County Departments to Undergraduate students with an interest in public service. This paid Internship Program will provide students with exposure to the diverse workforce opportunities available throughout County government. The participants will receive exposure to the application of essential skills and principles utilized by successful employees. In addition to being assigned to a specific department, Interns will participate in Lunch and Learn sessions with County leadership, visit multiple County sites, and participate in other local government activities. Minimum Requirements:
- Actively enrolled as a student in an undergraduate program with an accredited college or university (including two (2) and four (4)-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges). *Eligible participants will have an expected graduation date following the commencement of the program.*
- Able to provide own transportation to the work site(s).
- Possess a legal right to work in the United States.
- Able to commit to ALL program dates and programing events. (multiple absences will result in dismissal from the program).
- Residents of Prince William County
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective time management skills.
- Eager to learn new technologies and methodologies.
Students must attach the following information to their application when applying for an internship (applications without these documents will NOT be considered):
- Enrollment Letter – required (from registrar)
- Two (2) letters of recommendation dated within the past three months –
- 1 Academic -required and
- 1 Professional (recommended) or
- 1 Character reference (accepted for those lacking professional experience from a non-relative)
Work Schedule:
- May 27th to July 18th – up to 37.5 hours per week.
- Standard schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm (includes one-hour unpaid break). *Please note that some roles may require variable scheduling.*
- *On-site* at a Prince William County location. Location defined by departmental placement and may vary throughout placement.
- Mandatory attendance at all program sessions including program onboarding (May 27th), Board of County Supervisors meeting (TBA), half-day development and networking events (May 29th, June 5th, 12th, 18th, 26th, July 3rd, 10th, 17th), and program commencement (July 18th).
