The Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center (ADC) has full-time career opportunities for Jail Officers. In this role, you will protect behind the walls as you serve the community beyond the walls. We are looking for a few good men and women to motivate and inspire inmates on their rehabilitation journey.
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
In general, you will ensure compliance with rules and regulations governing inmate conduct in a secure environment. You will be expected to respond to emergencies and use interpersonal communications in the correctional setting as necessary to maintain or regain control of a situation. We seek candidates with; the ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations, the command and presence to enforce rules firmly and fairly, and the ability to detect changes in behavior and potential behavior problems.You will join a team of professionals that serve with integrity, respect, responsibility, courage, and compassion while being part of a team reduces stress. You will come to work in a safe and secure environment, working alongside a dedicated, well-trained team of officers and supporting staff.GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Typical daily duties you may expect to perform include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting periodic searches of inmates, living spaces, other areas of the ADC and vehicles prior to inmate transport.
- Ensuring all inmates observe acceptable personal hygiene.
- Conducting ‘post checks’ as required to include inmate counts and bed checks.
- Monitoring and updating post logs; writing reports, and documenting incidents.
- Inspecting security devices, including bars, keys, locks, windows, doors, and other equipment and apparatus.
- Using physical restraint when necessary to maintain control in emergency situations.
- Escorting inmates as required.
STARTING SALARY: $58,218.75
- 100% credit given for prior Jail Officer or Correctional Officer service up to 10 years.

SCHEDULE:
- 12-hour shifts/Rotating Day and Night tours
- Paid Overtime in accordance with Virginia Gap Pay Act, VA Code § 9.1-700, et seq
Must be 19 years, 9 months or older, with a high school diploma / GED and able to complete all Department of Criminal Justice Services mandated certification and training as a Jail Officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 12 months of hire.

- Valid driver’s license with no more than five (5) demerit points
- Must pass VCIN/NCIC criminal history investigation

NOTES:
***Hiring incentives will be paid out in two (2) equal installments. Fifty percent (50%) of the incentive will be paid following the date of graduation from the academy and the remaining fifty percent (50%) will be paid after the first anniversary of graduation from the academy. Probationary employees that voluntarily terminate employment with the County, shall repay the net amount (minus state and federal taxes) of the first bonus installment via a deduction from their annual leave payout and/or remit payment of any remaining balance within thirty (30) days following separation of employment from the County.***
***An annual $1,000.00 retention bonus will be paid for the first five (5) consecutive years of a newly hired sworn Jail Officer’s career with the County. The retention bonus will be paid following the date of hire anniversary.***QUESTIONS:
