NATURE OF WORK:
Performs routine direct health care services to Adult Detention Center inmates within the scope of Licensed Practical Nurse licensure regulations and which involves making decisions subject to Detention Center policies, procedures, physician's standing orders and applicable laws. Additionally, this position involves direct contact with incarcerated inmates.
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
Performs routine and emergency medical treatments to inmates within the scope of LPN licensure regulations. Assists other members of the health services team with providing inmate health care. Makes referrals to physician, dentist, and mental health professionals as needed. Schedules appointments with outside physicians and health specialists for services not provided within the Adult Detention Center. Conducts health history on inmates. Records vital signs. Obtains necessary lab specimens for diagnostic studies. Transcribes physician’s orders. Teaches health care practices. Provides diabetic care and education. Files and maintains medical records. Conducts medication rounds and dispenses medications as ordered by the physician or as outlined by the standing orders. Restocks the medication cart and orders medications as required. Maintains logs of medications and equipment. Operates oxygen tank, blood pressure equipment, syringe, microscope and security equipment. Inspects the working condition of medical equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment. Responds to health related questions from inmates, family, and other health care providers within established laws, protocols, and procedures. Records productivity and statistics. Communicates information to Detention Center staff as necessary to ensure inmate safety and well being. Also performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or G.E.D. plus a degree or diploma from a state approved professional nursing program and 1 year of related experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Practical Nurse License, CPR/First Aid Certification, and a valid driver's license.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
10 hour night shift

HIRING SALARY RANGE:
$33.80 - $47.65 hourly.

INCENTIVES:
$5000.00 Hiring Bonus
***Hiring incentives will be paid out in two (2) equal installments. Fifty percent (50%) of the incentive will be paid after ninety (90) days of employment and fifty percent (50%) will be paid following the completion of the probationary period. Probationary employees that voluntarily terminate employment with the County, shall repay the net amount (minus state and federal taxes) of the first bonus installment via a deduction from their annual leave payout and/or remit payment of any remaining balance within thirty (30) days following separation of employment from the County***
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an inherently stressful environment and involves risk to personal safety with possible exposure to blood borne and airborne pathogens.
