The Prince William Department of Social Services seeks a human services professional to perform case management on the Prevention Team within the Advocacy, Prevention, and Protection Division. This is a temporary, part-time (22.5 hours per week) position. The Prevention Team members perform risk assessments for families who have been identified as at-risk for child abuse/neglect. They work with families to identify resources and make recommendations for services and actions that will ensure a safe environment for children.  


About This Role:

The position involves managing cases of children and families at risk of abuse and neglect. The goal is to provide support to families in crisis and prevent children from entering foster care when it is safe to do so. This includes conducting interviews with families, assessing risks, developing and implementing service plans, offering crisis intervention to maintain family stability, assessing placements, recommending services, and taking actions to ensure the child's safety while helping families recognize their strengths and needs.

The position requires problem-solving, gathering information, analyzing facts, responding promptly to case details, and communicating clearly in both speech and writing. The worker must prioritize the demands of their caseload efficiently and work well under pressure and deadlines. They will also collect data for potential legal action and present facts as evidence in court cases.

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum of bachelor’s degree in a human services-related field or minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in the human services area. 


Preferences:

  • 2 years of Experience working with families in crisis; experiencing life challenges and have been unable to resolve their circumstances
  • 2 years of Experience with case management, record documentation and reports.
  • 2 years of Experience conducting home visits and providing information to families about programs and resources
  • 2 years of Experience working with families involved in child welfare programs such as child protective services or foster care
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Special Requirements:

  • All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster. 
  • Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services, and DMV background checks.  
  • Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster care program may not be employed by the Prince William Department of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive for work.

Work Schedule:

This is a temporary, non-benefit position. Work can be performed during the day and occasionally in the evenings, depending on the client’s availability. The hours are flexible. This position is 3 days per week for a total of 22.5 hours per week. You must be able to work 22.5 hours per week. Your work location will encompass fieldwork, office work at our Woodbridge location, and telework. You must have access to a reliable internet connection.  


Starting Salary Range: $33.65 - $47.10/hour
