Introduction :

The Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center is looking for a proactive, positive, and skilled Food Service professional to supervise and direct the food-service staff and operations for the facility. The ideal candidate must have a positive, collaborative, and thoughtful style of leadership designed to mentor and support the internal food service staff, partner with the security staff, and manage inmate trustee workers. This position directly supports the Food Services Manager to execute a safe, nutritious, and cost-effective food service program for the facility. Responsibilities will include supervise operational designing menus for various dietary restrictions, nutrition, and other statutory guidelines, organizing and supervising the food prep and cooking, ordering and maintaining food, equipment, and supplies inventories, and complying with safety and cleanliness standards. Nature of the Work :

This class is part of the Food Services Job Family. Incumbents oversee the food service operation, personnel, and records at a county facility such as park or corrections system. Responsibilities may include : sourcing and purchasing food inventory and supplies; dietary compliance, pricing, and product solicitation; supervising, training, and evaluating the work of assigned staff; developing and implementing operations controls to ensure high quality food products, outstanding customer service, and compliance of nutritional, sanitary, safety, health and religious standards and procedures.

Responsibilities :

  • Supervises food services staff (including inmate trustees) and operations, which includes : scheduling staff, prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; developing and overseeing menus; coordinating orders and deliveries with vendors; and preparing billing records.
  • Provides supervisory oversight of the department, including : assisting in the administration, planning, and implementation of food services; supervising food operations; and evaluating training programs delivered to food service staff to ensure effectiveness.
  • Supervises the use and maintenance of commercial kitchen production and serving equipment.
  • Coordinates and develops menus and menu item prices.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of reports related to daily activities and personnel utilization; prepares marketing materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Education, Training and Experience Requirements :

  • High School diploma or G.E.D and 3 years of related experience at a supervisor level.
  • ServSafe certified or completion within one year of start date.
  • Monitoring and evaluating employees;
  • Delegating and prioritizing work;
  • Preparing and cooking food for large populations;
  • Operating and maintaining a variety of commercial kitchen tools and equipment;
  • Reading and following recipes and developing production sheets;
  • Preparing and maintaining records;
  • Prioritizing and assigning work;
  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Special Requirements :

    Must pass a criminal history background investigation to include fingerprint and driving record check. Must pass a polygraph exam. Pass pre-employment physical. Must have a valid driver's license.

    Physical Requirements :

    Positions in this class typically require : crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

    Medium Work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and threatening environments.

    Working Schedule :

    40 hours per week, typically Monday-Friday. Responding to emergencies, inclement weather, and other issues that may impact food service operations before or after regular working hours, including on holidays and weekends, with little or no notice is required

    FLSA : Non-exempt

    Starting Salary Range :

    31.96 to $45.42 (Minimum to Midpoint)
