Introduction
The Prince William Public Library seeks an energetic and customer service-oriented individual to join our dedicated team as a Library Assistant. This individual will work both independently and collaboratively to deliver exceptional internal and external customer service to our staff and the vibrant, diverse community we serve. The Library Assistant position is crucial to our library services and can serve as a launch pad for a successful career.
About This Role
Provide excellent customer service by responding to questions and referring patrons to appropriate departments or individuals.
Interpret and explain library policies and procedures to patrons.
Collect fees using a cash register. Operate the cash register to collect fees.
Assist patrons with technological equipment including printers, copiers and fax machines
Maintains and arranges the library collection, including following shelving and shelf reading procedures and removing damaged materials. (Pull hold requests, tidy up shelves, and assist with reports)
Attend and participate in meetings and training.
Participate in library and county outreach events
Work independently or as part of a team.
Check materials in / out and help locate materials
Created, updated, and maintained patrons’ records using library software and databases
Minimum Requirements
8th grade education and 12 months customer service experience.
Preferences
Customer Service Experience.
Scheduling flexibility.
Cash handling experience.
Experience using Microsoft products (Office 365, Teams, Word, Excel)
Experience using library software and applications.
Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule
This is a permanent part-time position working 20 hours per week. Scheduling flexibility is imperative. Scheduled hours will fall within the following operating hours: Monday through Wednesday 8:30 am-8 pm, Thursday through Saturday 8:30 am -5 pm, and Sunday 12 am-5 pm. The schedule includes one evening and rotating weekends. Hours are based on the library's needs.
Starting Salary Range: $19.41- $24.88
