Prince William County, Department of Social Services (PWC DSS) seeks an Assistant Director of Children’s Services Act (CSA) to guide our mission and oversee all division functions—operational, financial, administrative, and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations. About This Role
The primary role of this position is to support the administration coordination and oversight of services funded through CSA to ensure at-risk children and families receive appropriate care. This includes ensuring compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, laws, and policies, preparing and managing budgets including cost estimates for budget recommendations, coordinating service delivery, and collaborating with stakeholders. You will also develop, implement, recommend, and evaluate program objectives, policies, and procedures; determine the assignment of staff and resources; and interpret and apply policies and procedures.
Inspire and support the Department of Social Services leadership by championing innovative program initiatives, fostering collaboration across divisions, engaging with local and state human services, responsibly managing the budget, negotiating impactful contracts, guiding the interpretation of policies and procedures, and empowering staff through effective supervision.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area and supervisory experience or work experience in a leadership role.
Preferences
All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster. Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services, and DMV background checks. The Prince William Department of Social Services may not employ resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
This exempt position may involve attending routine evening meetings and being accessible during weekends and evenings, particularly in the event of public emergencies. The Department supports teleworking with approval from the supervisor.
Hiring Salary Range: $104,500.50 to $135,846.75/yr.

- 3 or more years of human services case management
- Experience and working knowledge of Virginia’s Children’s Services Act
- Ability to correctly interpret and implement policies
- Demonstrated experience contracting with private providers
- Forecasting and managing budgets
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and implement IV-E policy
- Experience with VDSS audits and audit requirements
- Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker License

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Capable of delivering public speeches effectively in English with confidence and poise.
- Possesses the capability to comprehensively read and interpret written materials in English pertaining to legislative matters, program developments, financial considerations, and rules and regulations.
- Must be able to draft and refine content while ensuring clarity in grammar and adherence.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with all staff, the public, individual customers, and elected officials.
- Possess the ability to drive and provide personal transportation, with mileage expenses eligible for reimbursement.
- Occasional overnight travel.
