The Prince William County Police Department is seeking an experienced law enforcement leader with strong communication skills and financial acumen who has experience in the administration of a large police agency to fill the role as chief administrative officer (CAO). This position will facilitate numerous organizational initiatives to creatively address problems and improve service to a growing, diverse, and dynamic community.
About This Role
The CAO will serve as the executive leader of business services and functions of the police department with critical impact on the organization and the community. The incumbent will exercise strategic and visionary thinking with long term organizational application by developing strategies and programs critical to the police department. Responsibilities cross multiple functional units in the police department and include finance and budget, information technology, grant management, performance management, facility management, policy, and strategic crime and intelligence analysis.
Extensive prior leadership experience within a municipal organization in police operation and administration, finance and budget, strategic planning, interagency coordination problem solving and change management is a must.
This position will be a member of the senior leadership team, working directly with the police chief, deputy police chief, chief of staff and assistant chiefs, and community leaders to creatively address issues in modern policing.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 8 years of related state, local, or federal law enforce experience supervision of operations, budget/finance and/or administration.
Preferences
The normal schedule will consist of traditional business hours of Monday - Friday, 8:30am-5pm with flexibility required to work evenings or weekends to meet with community groups or other assigned teams to meet the Mission of the department.

Hiring Salary Range: $142,188.64 - $192,372.87yr.

- 15 years of police experience with state or local government, and a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
- Education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in public administration, finance, accounting, information technology, or related field, is preferred.
- Advanced training in police or law enforcement administration is also preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with oversight of police department operations, budget/finance, and/or administration.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must pass a DMV record check and police department background investigation.
- Must pass a drug screening.
