Job Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose, and treat diseases and injuries of teeth, gums, and mouth
- Clean and fill cavities
- Repair cracked or fractured teeth
- Extract teeth
- Provide preventive care, such as cleaning and applying sealants and fluorides
- Educate patients on proper oral health habits and nutrition
- Prescribe medications, such as antibiotics and pain relievers
- Perform root canals, crowns, bridges, and other restorative procedures
- Administer anesthetics and perform other surgical procedures
- Maintain patient records and compile data for research or grant applications
- Monitor growth and development of teeth and jaws
- Refer patients to other healthcare professionals, such as orthodontists and oral surgeons
