Overview
This position supports the analysis, enhancement, and maintenance of technologies, systems, and data in the Undergraduate Financial Aid and Student Employment Office. Reporting to the Strategic IT and Data Manager, it is responsible for developing and maintaining business documentation and supporting senior aid staff and University leadership in meeting federal, institutional and state requirements related to financial aid. This position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with functional staff to document and understand business needs and develop requirements. This includes assisting in identifying gaps in business process, highlighting items for further analysis, and eliciting requirements for new functionality. This position will also work with the aid compliance team to understand annual state and federal rule changes and their downstream impact, and assist the Strategic IT and data manager to prioritize the business process needs of the office.
- Work with teams within the Office of Information Technology to translate functional business requirements using the Agile project methodology and/or through the Microsoft Teams Platform. This includes authoring user stories, creating and managing tasks in JIRA, managing the functional side of bi-weekly sprint reviews, and evaluating SFP and PUM release information to help identify impacts on Student Financial Planning (SFP).
- Create necessary business documentation, including requirements for both functional and OIT staff. This position tests updates and new features in FA DEV, QA and production environments, as well as creates and maintains business process guides.
- Supports the Strategic IT and Data Manager in defining reporting requirements, updating report logic, and creating new reporting to support functional needs. This position also attends University wide meetings and is responsible for maintaining awareness of best practices/approaches related to the business analysis discipline.
Qualifications
Essential requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or equivalent work experience.
- 5-7 years of Business Analyst experience.
- Experience in translating business requirements into functional and technical language/documents.
- Proven strong contributor with excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Proficient in mapping business rules to processes
- Ability to elicit, interpret and analyze functional requirement documents for highly complex business processes
Preferred requirements:
- Experience with Agile methodology, and the usage of JIRA for story writing and project tracking.
- Experience in higher education
- SQL
- Knowledge of report writing
